Birthday Blog:
Last week I celebrated my 67th birthday so I thought I’d make a present to myself by restarting my newsletters. Garrett’s Gossip is finally rising phoenix-like from the ashes of the Covid pandemic! Now that our government appear to have downgraded the Covid virus to a cold, I thought perhaps it might be time for a reboot and a catch up. Do any of you out there remember me? It’s been a while.
Coincidentally, having managed to avoid our favourite virus for a whole two years, I was recently obliged to isolate in my Yorkshire cottage after letting my guard down and visiting The Deep in Hull with my nieces and nephews. The Deep is a fabulous aquarium and we spent a blissful couple of hours partying with the fish. Sadly the next day I tested positive for the first time in 23 months of regular testing. It was nasty and I was completely knocked off my feet for a couple of weeks but fear not, it takes more than a spikey green virus to take this Yorkshire woman down! Despite having every symptom on the Test and Trace notification App, I am slowing recovering.
Ironically my lovely doctor husband Peter, despite testing positive, had no symptoms at all. “Do I have to do it for the both of us,” I wailed. “Just like childbirth then!!”
Before we start catching up, I’d like to say a big thank you to my manager Lawrence Kershaw who has been a little ray of sunshine in my darkest hours and also dear Steve Down, who has been keeping some of you up-to-date with the bits and pieces I’ve been doing. I’ll chatting about 2020/21 activities, such as they were, as we go. I’ve tried to keep my voice in shape despite, like everyone else, losing all my work during the lockdown. Joy Mammen, my singing teacher of 40 years, has been an absolute saint giving her students, including me, on-line lessons during lockdown.
Recently however, there have been signs of green shoots and I’m not just talking about the weeds in my lawn! I’m beginning to string a few of my ‘Audience With LG’ evenings together and I’ve recently made a new recording to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of dear and much-loved Queen Elizabeth II! Available now.
More about that later, I’m such a tease! Today is about saying hello and I’m back!
